For victims of the May 16th tornado: Please contact the Assessor as soon as possible. There is a form that needs to be signed before they can reassess your property for damage to your structures. Please call or stop by the office as soon as possible so that they can help you.

Building Permit Information
Residential Inspection Requirements: The Brown County Planning & Zoning office uses a one-permit system for all construction in incorporated Brown County. All new residential construction, including additions, require inspections of the following:
Footings: Inspected upon footer trench or basement excavation & forms erected (prior to concrete).
Foundations: Inspected prior to backfill (sill plates, anchor bolts & damp proofing).
Rough-in: Includes the inspection of framing, plumbing, electrical & mechanical, prior to drywall or insulation.
Final: Inspection required upon project completion. A Certificate of Occupancy shall be issued upon inspection. The premises shall not be occupied until a certificate of occupancy is issued.
Contractor License: License number for General contractors, Electricians (local) & Plumbers (state) shall be on file with our office prior to construction.
Inspection Notice: Inspections require notice, no less than 48 hours in advance. Same day requests will only be accepted at the discretion of the Building Commissioner.
